At the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards, the Chinese-developed game Black Myth: Wukong took home two major awards: Ultimate Game of the Year and Best Visual Design.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won four awards: Best Narrative, Best Soundtrack, Best Lead Performance, and Best Supporting Performance. Helldivers 2 received accolades for Best Console Game, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Trailer, and the Critics’ Choice Award. Astro Bot won Best Audio Design, while its developer, Team ASOBI, was named Studio of the Year. Satisfactory claimed the title of PC Game of the Year.
Best Narrative went to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Other nominees included: Like a Dragon 8, Tactical Breach Wizards, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Famicom Detective Club: The Grinning Man Emio, and 1000xRESIST.
Best Visual Design went to Black Myth: Wukong! Other nominees were: Astro Bot, Harold Halibut, Metaphor ReFantazio, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.
Helldivers 2 won Best Multiplayer Game, with nominees including: Non-Human Factor, EA Sports College Football 25, Sons of the Forest, Tekken 8, and The Finals.
Best Audio Design went to Astro Bot. Other nominees were: Jester Card, Mechanical Beat, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, Star Wars Outlaws, and Negative Atmosphere.
The Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree won Best Game Expansion, beating out other nominees such as Alan Wake 2 DLC, Destiny 2: The Final Shape, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, and World of Warcraft: War Beneath the Waves.
Best Indie Game (Self-Published) went to Crab Quest, with nominees including: Arctic Eggs, The Land of Crows, Duck Detective: The Salami Secret, I Am Your Beast, Cat Town Adventures, Lie Wen, Tactical Breach Wizards, Tiny World, and UFO 50.
Best Indie Game went to Jester Card. Other nominees were: Animal Well, Arco, Conscript, Beyond Galaxyland, Indica, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Thank Goodness You’re Here!, Brave Little Knight, and Ultros.
Team ASOBI, the developer of Astro Bot, won Studio of the Year. Other nominated studios included: 11 Bit Studios, Arrowhead Game Studios, Capcom, Digital Eclipse, and Visual Concepts.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won Best Soundtrack, with nominees including: A Highland Song, Astro Bot, Ghosty Hodie, Silent Hill 2: Remake, and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
The release trailer for Helldivers 2 won Best Game Trailer.
Deadly Company won Best Early Access Game, competing against: Kingdoms of Fog, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, Hades II, Lords of the Manor, and Phantom Beast Palu.
Mobile Game of the Year (Most Addictive Award) went to Honkai: Star Rail, surpassing competitors such as Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, Free Fire, Roblox, Marvel Snap, Monopoly Go, Mini Motorways, PUBG, Boom Beach Frontlines, Star Wars: Hunters, Subway Surfers, and The Sims Mobile.
Console/PC Game of the Year (Most Addictive Award) was won by Minecraft. Other nominees included: Apex Legends, Counter-Strike 2, EA Sports FC, Dota 2, Fortnite, GTA Online, Naraka: Bladepoint, Roblox, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, and Warframe.
Streamer’s Choice Award: Entwined Chains.
Best Breakthrough Innovation: Jester Card.
The Best Gaming Hardware award went to the Steam Deck OLED, outshining competitors such as the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024), Backbone One (2nd Gen), LG UltraGear 32GS95UE, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super, and Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra.
Fallout won Best Film/TV Adaptation, beating other nominees like: Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, Like a Dragon, Halo Season 2, Borderlands, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Briana White, the actress for Aerith in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, won Best Supporting Performance.
Cody Christian, the actor for Cloud in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, won Best Lead Performance.
PC Game of the Year: Satisfactory! Other nominees included: Animal Well, Jester Card, Frostpunk 2, Tactical Breach Wizards, and UFO 50.
Console Game of the Year: Helldivers 2! Other nominees included: Astro Bot, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
