RPG Stories That Will Carry You Away

The more we see video games progress the more content we see them getting, I’m not joking when I say there are games in which I’ve spent over 180 hours of my life playing. I’d say when it comes to content and immersive story’s you can’t beat a good role-playing game (RPG), and there are so many great ones out there. Here are a few that I think have excellent stories for you to sink your teeth into, with all the twists, turns and misleading side quests you hope for from a good RPG

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

As far as I remember this was the first RPG in which you could truly make decisions that affected the outcome of the story you’re playing through. The concept of good and evil act can find no better place than here in the world of Star Wars, where each decision aligns you more with either the Jedi or the Sith. You play as a character who wakes up in a ship being attacked by the wicked Sith forces, only problem is you are suffering from an acute bout of amnesia and have forgotten everything about yourself. You have to make your way through the Star Wars galaxy, learning the ways of the Jedi and fighting (or overthrowing) the forces of evil. To go to into the story would reveal too much but as you make your way from planet to planet you make friends with an unruly crew who join you on your adventures, this includes everyone from a Wookie warrior to a homicidal bounty hunter droid, what more could you want from a game?

Quite frankly The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I have ever played. Every story in it is filled with tension and enjoyment, the gameplay is just as thrilling, and the world is huge. You’ll find yourself doing everything from hunting Griffins to dethroning kings. It is a huge game and will keep you entertained for hours on end, but the fun doesn’t end when the main story does, there’s also two expansion packs that’ll add even more to your experience. I cannot recommend the Blood and Wine pack enough, in this you’ll make your way around a colourful kingdom filled with knights, magic swords and fairy tale stories that make for a whole new experience with Geralt.

Everyone that has played through this series has their favourite entry and personally I enjoyed them all. The first has the Hero Guild, an organisation filled with magical warriors that go on quests and either fight for good or evil. The third has a huge world, miserable steampunk cities, mysterious desert ruins and wonderful Welsh gypsies, you even get to be king, making decisions for the entire world. But it’s the second game that I think has all the magic of the first entry and the improved gameplay of the third, it’s a great story that takes you from the slums to the throne room, meeting other heroes and fighting monsters all the way. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you have your own dog. What’s not to love?
