The PlayStation 5 Sells Twice as Well as The Xbox Series X

Since the triumph of the original Playstation, the competition has been trying to catch up with the market leader in consoles. The duels between Microsoft’s Xbox and the new Playstation are legendary. Accordingly, experts were excited in advance to see how the fourth edition of the contest would turn out this time as both brands launched their new devices on the market at the end of last year.

But Microsoft rejected the competition in advance. The focus of the Microsoft group is clear and they see the future of the game pass. The Americans want to expand this service as a kind of Netflix for gamers and their new console should be a complement to this idea. That took the pressure off the discussion in Redmond in advance. After all, the Xbox has not yet succeeded in overtaking the PlayStation. But that did not change this time around either.

When the consoles came into the shops in time for Christmas, many fans could not buy them as the supply failed to meet the enormous demand and worldwide interest. Once again, the fans had to wait long until they could finally hold the new console in their hands. However, the situation has recently changed. It is impossible to produce a sufficient number of devices to satisfy the need of the new generation of PlayStation and Xbox. But there is one exception. Just like Sony, Microsoft has also released a slimmed-down version, the Xbox Series S, which is still mostly available. That is indicated by unsatisfactory sales figures.

Surprise Winner Is Nintendo

The statistics for the first quarter of 2021 prove that the PlayStation has impressively underpinned its leadership in the market. The company sold twice as well as the new Xbox. The figures from the market researchers at Ampere Analysis prove that. The Playstation 5 was sold a total of 2.83 million times during this period. The Xbox Series X, however sol only 1.31 million units. But in the shadow of the two large corporations, another manufacturer, which worked its way to the top.

Nintendo leads the sales charts with its Nintendo Switch that accounted for 5.86 million units sold in the first quarter of 2021, taking over the top. That is all the more remarkable given that it is an older console. The company will release the new Nintendo Switch Pro at the end of this year. These sales figures show that Sony and Microsoft still have a lot of work to do. Publishing big hit games could help with that. Countless fans eagerly await the new adventures of the Master Chief on Xbox and Grand Theft Auto 6. But Halo Infinite won’t be released until the end of this year. For GTA 6, things look even worse. Whether at all or when the now eight-year-old blockbuster GTA 5 will get a successor is still in question. However, both games could boost sales of both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X significantly.
