Recently, South Korea’s Dragonfly announced the successful demonstration of the Special Force remake at G-STAR 2024, held in Busan.
During the Korean gaming exhibition G-STAR 2024, which took place from November 14 to 17, Dragonfly showcased the remake in the B2B exhibition area, presenting it to industry professionals and unveiling development plans for the upcoming year. The new title is led by Dragonfly founder and Executive Director Park Cheol-seung, who also spearheaded the development of the original Special Force. This remake serves as a direct sequel to the Special Force game, which has been operational globally since its release in 2004.
At G-STAR, Executive Director Park personally demonstrated the game and revealed plans to release a beta version by 2025. He stated, “Special Force has sustained its global presence for the past 20 years due to its distinctive recoil mechanics, movement dynamics, balanced maps, and a focus on teamwork and tactical gameplay, which have made it a highly regarded esports FPS title.” He added, “In the remake, we are focusing on achieving more realistic visuals, incorporating modern warfare’s latest weapons and equipment, and enhancing esports-related content development.”
Dragonfly disclosed that the primary development goal of the remake is to establish a “global esports system.” This system will allow players to freely form teams, participate in regularly scheduled online leagues, and earn points to qualify for seasonal tournaments. Casual players who do not compete can still enjoy watching the matches. Additionally, the game will include features for social media integration and user-friendly personal live streaming.
Park further explained, “Special Force has hosted numerous irregular tournaments and leagues across multiple regions over the past 20 years. In the remake, we aim to provide a system where regular players can join or watch matches directly in the game and even broadcast their gameplay. This will enhance the esports experience for players worldwide. In the future, we plan to develop it into a global esports platform, enabling players from around the world to participate in leagues together.”
